1960
Jarvie Plant is established in Falkirk as a partnership by John Jarvie Snr. to provide plant and equipment while our clients’ own equipment is being repaired.
1970
John Jarvie, now our Chairman, joins the business, with our core product range now compressors, weld sets, mixers and coal conveyors. We now have a presence in Glasgow too, having opened a depot the previous year at Govan docks.
1972
Our accommodation division is formed, supplying early welfare units and leading the way with the first JPX modular buildings in Scotland.
1975
The first telescopic handler in Scotland is delivered to Jarvie Plant. Fast forward and we now have one of the largest telehandler fleets in the UK. Cowdenbeath depot opens to service contractors at Mossmorran.
1979
Edinburgh depot opens in Craigentinny and has since moved to Bankhead.
1984
Jarvie Plant Group becomes a limited company. Gordon Jarvie, who now heads our accommodation division, joins the business.
1985
Paisley added to our network of depots.
1996
A new vehicle rental division is created to meet customer demand, and later becomes JP Vehicle Rentals.
2005
£3m investment in re-developing our Grangemouth and Glasgow depots begins, with Grangemouth undertaken this year and Glasgow in 2009.
2010
With David Jarvie becoming Business Development Director, the third generation of the Jarvie family joins our board. Fast forward to 2021 and David now leads the company as Managing Director.
2014
Our Dundee depot begins trading to serve Dundee/Angus, Perth & Kinross and Fife areas.
2016
Our Aberdeen depot begins trading to serve Aberdeen and Grampian areas, creating 10 new jobs and taking our headcount past 150.
2017
Our first depot in England opens in Manchester to serve the city and the wider North West region.
2018
Jarvie Plant’s support to Social Bite helps it establish its first homeless village in Edinburgh, one of our many local community initiatives.
2019
With Health, Safety, Environment and Quality at the heart of our business, a Considerate Constructors Scheme audit results in another very impressive 4 Star award.
2020
Total investment in new hire equipment over the past five years reaches some £60m.
